The RUC has begun a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in Belfast overnight.

Mr Arthur Berryman, 46, was attacked at his home on Imperial Street in the east of Belfast last night.

The victim's wife suffered minor facial injuries after being shoved out of the way by the killer.

She had answered a knock on their front door to be confronted by a masked man wielding a weapon, thought to be a knife.

He knocked her aside before launching an attack on Mr Berryman, stabbing him several times.

It is believed the killer escaped on foot.

The RUC said no motive had been established for the attack and the murder weapon had not yet been recovered. They did not rule out a sectarian possibility.
