RUC find guns, bomb parts during searches

The RUC have recovered a replica handgun and a quantity of ammunition during a planned search of a house in Co Antrim.

RUC officers made the find at a house in Prince’s Crescent, Newtownabbey this afternoon. There were no arrests.

Earlier bomb-making material, a hand gun and ammunition were found during a search of an unoccupied house in Belfast.

An RUC spokesman said component parts for pipe bombs were found in the house at Glenrosalink, in the North Queen Street area.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan said the find was a "very important part of the fight to combat this type of terrorism."
