Mary Curtin, producer of RTE Radio 1's Cross Currents programme, has been appointed by the Vatican as press liaison officer to the English-speaking world media for the European Synod of Bishops in Rome next month.
As well as being the first woman to be appointed to such a position, she is also the first Irish person to have such a role.
