Geneva - The United Nations Human Rights Commisssioner, Mrs Mary Robinson, yesterday condemned the assassination of Colombian criminal defence lawyer and human rights advocate Eduardo Umana Mendoza. His family has blamed his fatal shooting on Saturday on ultraright groups.
Mrs Robinson noted that this was the third such political assassination in Colombia in two months and called on the Bogota government to ensure the safety of those fighting to protect fundamental rights.
