Gardai are seeking two men who stole thousands of pounds worth of diamond rings from a Limerick city jewellers. Shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, two armed and masked men carrying handguns burst into Ryans jewellers shop in Roches Street. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The raiders wore balaclavas and are believed to be in their 20s. They snatched about eight trays of rings and escaped in a Ford Fiesta car, which had been stolen in Garryowen and was later found at Johnsgate.

One man was described as 6 ft to 6 ft 2 in, slim, wearing a turquoise pullover and blue jeans. The other man was described as 5 ft 9 in or 5 ft 10 in, heavy build, with a black non- shiny bomber jacket and blue jeans.
