A €10,000 reward was today offered for help in the Garda investigation into the murder of a Dublin mechanic.

Crimestoppers made the appeal over the death of Liam "Blackey" Murray who was found with gunshot wounds in the bedroom of his Rathfarnham cottage in March.

Gardai believe Mr Murray (42) was killed between St Patrick's Day and March 20th at his home at Cruagh Road in Edmunstown, Rathfarnham.

Detective Inspector Gearoid Begley from Terenure Garda Station today made a special appeal to the public for information on the crime.

"We're asking for anybody to come forward in confidence if they were in the Cruagh Road area on the evening of the Tuesday, March 17 or at any time between March 17th and 20th or saw any suspicious activity during those dates," he said.

Crimestoppers said it was confident that someone has information that can solve the case.

The murder of Mr Murray was the eighth gun killing of 2009. Gardai suspect the victim may have been involved in a row in the days before his death.

He ran a small car garage close to his home in nearby Templeogue, where he grew up.

Mr Murray is believed to have been socialising in a bar on Clanbrassil Street up to 6pm on St Patrick's Day.

A friend who had been unable to contact him in the following days called to his house and found his body in his bedroom.

Irish Crimestoppers Trust was set up in 1998 to provide a confidential means for every citizen to report crime without fear of recrimination.
