London - The result of a vote to choose the new leader of Britain's opposition Conservative party is to be announced today, after the contest was postponed out of respect to victims of terrorists attacks in the US.

The party's 315,000-odd members have been voting to choose between the right-wing Eurosceptic, Mr Iain Duncan Smith - the bookies' favourite - and the pro-Europe former finance minister, Mr Kenneth Clarke.

A spokesman for the party said the result would be revealed at 4.15 p.m. today after a 24-hour postponement.
