Up to 500 republicans in Northern Ireland are being alerted that their lives could be under threat following seizures of loyalist dossiers.

The RUC Assistant Chief Constable, Mr Alan McQuillan, yesterday confirmed that personal details of hundreds of republicans, including addresses and photographs, were recovered during two separate police searches in north Belfast.

Pipe-bombs, guns and ammunition were also recovered in the recent finds, which were linked to the UVF.

The information has been passed to detectives investigating the killings of solicitors Pat Finucane and Rosemary Nelson.
