London - Ginger Spice just wanted to be alone. Gazza wasn't fit enough and Israel's Dana International has ruled herself out of the running, Rachel Donnelly reports.
It seems the search for Geri Halliwell's replacement in the Spice Girls is not over yet after a report in yesterday's Israeli newspaper, Ma'ariv, claimed the winner of the Eurovision Contest, Dana International, had turned down an invitation to join the group.
Dana International, formerly known as Yaron Cohen before her sex change in 1993, begins a 10-date European tour today. However, Ms Sharon Hanley of the Spice Girls' PR representatives, Outside Organisation, greeted the report with an exasperated sigh. "It is not true, it is not true," she said. "I think there needs to be some common sense here."
Asked if she could envisage Dana International singing on stage with the four remaining Spice Girls, Ms Hanley replied: "Could you?"
