Remand for sex assault teenager

A Dublin teenager has been remanded by the Central Criminal Court for sentence for aggravated sexual assault. Savino Cooney (18), of Thornville Avenue, Kilbarrack, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a female using serious violence at Upper Duke Lane in Dublin city centre on May 24th, 1998. Mr Anthony Sammon SC, defending, said it was "a complex case" and he needed time to consult psychiatric experts and to have reports prepared. Mr Justice Carney set July 30th next as the sentence date and remanded Cooney on continuing bail to then.
