Moscow - Five local people, including a deputy chief administrator of Chechnya's southern town of Starye Atagi, have been killed by rebels, Russian police said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Russian troops killed 21 rebels and detained 39 rebel suspects during police operations in east and south-east Chechnya.
