Rail services between Bray and Gorey to resume

Rail services between Bray and Gorey will be back to normal on Thursday, Iarnród Éireann said today.

Rail services between Bray and Gorey will be back to normal on Thursday, Iarnród Éireann said today.

A rock fall close to the entrance of a tunnel at Bray Head resulted in the closure of the rail line for the past two weeks. Bus transfers were operating between Bray and Greystones for Dart services and the Gorey commuter and Rosslare Intercity services were also being part substituted by bus during remedial works to clear the rock fall.

The first of the new Intercity trains will also be introduced on the line from Thursday operating the daily 6.00am service from Gorey to Connolly and the 16.40 return journey.

The new trains will have more seating capacity, improved access for mobility-impaired customers and be fully air-conditioned. They also meet stringent new emission standards for trains imposed by the European Union.

A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said it had been a "difficult February" for customers using the affected routes.

"However, with the full restoration of services from this Thursday, we are bringing an added bonus with the eagerly awaited introduction of the first of the new Intercity railcars on the Gorey route," he said.
