Rail action causes little disruption

RAIL services were not seriously disrupted by yesterday's strike of clerical staff

RAIL services were not seriously disrupted by yesterday's strike of clerical staff. The only public offices closed were those at the Travel Centre in Cork.

Management and supervisory staff issued tickets to rail travellers at booking offices normally operated by members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association. Offices staffed by SIPTU members operated normally.

The union took strike action because of a unilateral decision by Iarnrod Eireann to close its Railink subsidiary before concluding negotiations with the union.
