Pupil-teacher ratios in both primary and secondary schools are higher in the Republic than in Northern Ireland.

Pupil-teacher ratios in both primary and secondary schools are higher in the Republic than in Northern Ireland.

Overall ratios have fallen in the South from 22.3 pupils per teacher in 1987/1988 to 18.7 in 1997/1998. This is still higher than Northern Ireland's pupil-teacher ratio of more than a decade ago.
