Members of the public are invited to participate this week in A Grand Experience, a film documentary being made about the life and ways of the Grand Canal during the barge journey eastwards from Shannon Harbour to Edenderry in Co Offaly.

Three local artists have embarked on the six-day journey along the Grand Canal on the historic Lora Marie 68m barge as part of Offaly County Council’s public art project.

Offaly playwright and Pure Mule author Eugene O’Brien, singer-songwriter Wayne Brennan and Veronica Nicholson, a photographer and installation artist, will take inspiration from their surroundings during the journey.

The artists began their journey at Shannon Harbour on Monday and will stop at Belmont, Rahan and Tullamore before arriving in Edenderry on March 24th at the weekend.
