Police in Northern Ireland are investigating an incident in which a couple in their 50s was threatened by an armed gang in their home in west Belfast last night.

Four masked men, some brandishing handguns, broke into the couple's home shortly after 9pm last night in Springfield Park and demanded money.

The gang claimed they were holding the couple's son hostage. No money was handed over, the couple were not harmed and their son was safe.
