Police in Northern Ireland have appealed to the public for help following separate assaults in Newry and Belfast.

In Newry, a man was assaulted in a house sometime between 7am and 9am this morning.

A man entered the house in the Innisfree Park area and assaulted the male occupant in a downstairs bedroom.

The victim required hospital treatment for his injuries.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity to contact them.

Meanwhile another man was assaulted by up to six men in North Belfast during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Shortly after 4am the man was walking along Jamaica Road when he was approached by up to six unknown men.

He was struck and fell to the ground and during the assault had part of his left ear bitten off.

The man was later taken to hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the attack.
