A Kurdish rebel call for people to stay at home on the anniversary of Turkey's capture of guerrilla leader Abdullah Ocalan went largely unheeded yesterday. One A year ago Turkish special forces lured Ocalan out from of hiding in the Greek embassy in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and bundled him onto a small plane and back to Turkey.

Now languishing in an island jail, Ocalan is awaiting a European Court of Human Rights verdict on an appeal against his death sentence. That process could take another 18 months.
