Asked about Mr Trimble's difficulties, within the Ulster Unionist Party, Mr Hume said: "He is clearly in a position to implement the agreement in all its aspects".
Speaking at Government Buildings (FRI) before a meeting with the Taoiseach, Mr Hume said he was confident difficulties could be resolved in September, when the atmosphere in the North was always better than during the marching season.
