Profiles of the two Air Corps pilots who died on Monday
Capt Derek Furniss (32)
From Ballinteer, Dublin, he was the Air Corps chief flight instructor on the Pilatus aircraft. He joined the Defence Forces in October 1994 and qualified as a pilot in 1996.
He recorded more than 3,000 flight hours and was a member of the Air Corps PC-9 display team.
He ran the Dublin city marathon last year, he was a member of Rathfarnham Athletic Club and was an avid rugby fan.
Cadet David Jevens (22)
From Glynn, Co Wexford, he joined the Air Corps as a cadet in 2006. He was in the advanced stages of flight training on the PC-9 with more than 160 flight hours and 50 simulator training hours over the past three years.
He was due to receive his commission later this year.
He was involved in kayaking and interested in motor sports, owning and restoring several vehicles.
