A Defence Forces private from Cork who indecently assaulted his niece in the 1980s has been given a two-year suspended sentence after paying £10,000 compensation to his victim.
Det Garda Regina Donnelly told Mr Justice Lavan at the Central Criminal Court that the victim was willing to accept the compensation and wanted to put the case behind her.
The 31-year-old married man pleaded guilty to four charges of indecently assaulting the girl on May 13th, 1983, and on dates unknown between May 14th, 1983, and May 31st, 1986.
