Prison officers held on suspicion of drug dealing

Four prison officers were arrested as part of a crackdown on drug dealing in prisons, gardaí said today.

Four prison officers were arrested as part of a crackdown on drug dealing in prisons, gardaí said today.

The men were detained in Kildare, Laois and Dublin.Another man who was not a prison officer was also arrested.

They were questioned by gardaí from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, who were investigating the possession and distribution of illegal drugs at Midland and Wheatfield prisons.

They were held at Garda stations in Dublin and Kildare under the Drug Trafficking Act.
