London - The British Deputy Prime Minister, Mr John Prescott, flew to the US yesterday in an attempt to restart stalled climate change talks following President Bush's decision to abandon the Kyoto Protocol.

Mr Bush's stance on global warming has enraged politicians and environment groups worldwide, but Mr Prescott believes it is possible to find a way forward. The deputy prime minister said: "We must argue with the Americans and get them to agree that we have to have a global solution".
