Electricity has been restored to thousands of homes and businesses in Dublin city centre this morning following a fire at an ESB substation.

An ESB spokesman said the power failure at 6.40 a.m. was the result of a fire at the Francis Street substation. The fire was dealt with by Dublin Fire Brigade and power was restored shortly after 9 a.m.

Damage at the station is being repaired and ESB is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
