A post-mortem examination on the body of an 18-year-old hurler who died while playing in a match in north Cork last night has indicated he died of natural causes.
Mr Kevin Quinn was playing for Harbour Rovers in a Division III North Cork Junior Hurling League match against Newtownshandrum.
Mr Quinn was seen lying on the ground clutching his chest after contesting for the ball shortly after throw in.
It is understood he had no obvious signs of injury and suspicions were that he may have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Mr Quinn's remains were later removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.
The Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster carried out a preliminary post-mortem examination this afternoon.
The match was abandoned immediately.
Mr Quinn is the fifth young person to die while playing sport in Ireland this year.
Tyrone GAA captain Mr Cormac McAnallen died in March at the age of 24. A short time after, 18-year-old rugby player Mr John McCall died while on tour in South Africa.
