Police in the North are investigating a pipe bomb attack on a house in Co Down late last night.

A group of people in the front livingroom of a house in Ardmore Heights, Holywood saw a man appear outside shortly after midnight.

The group managed to leave the room before a device, left by the man on the window sill outside, exploded. Nobody was seriously injured but a number of people were treated for shock, a PSNI spokeswoman said.

She said the device appeared to be a pipe bomb.

A grey saloon car, possibly and Audi, was seen in the area at the time of the attack. A Vauxhall Astra was also seen in the vicinity. Police are appealing for witnesses.
