Manchester police divers continued to search a lake and river yesterday for a five year old girl, Rosemary McCann, a member of the Irish travelling community, who was abducted from her bedroom five days ago, Rachel Borrill reports.

House to house inquiries are also continuing but police admit they fear she is dead.

Mr Andrew Pountley (31), a disc jockey from Oldham, will again appear before the magistrates court today charged with the girl's abduction.

She was taken from her bedroom early on Sunday morning, while her mother, Mrs Josie Mahon, visited a neighbour. Eyewitnesses have said they saw a man carry the girl, who was wearing only her pyjamas and a coat, out of her house.
