The Government is to unveil a plan next week to create a bilingual society speaking both Irish and English.

The Government is to unveil a plan next week to create a bilingual society speaking both Irish and English.

The plan will be unveiled at a press conference in the Government's official residence, Farmleigh House, on Tuesday just before the last Cabinet meeting this year.

The plan will be rolled out over 20 years and will have 13 key elements, the Government said in a statement today.

Irish is due to become the 21st official working language of the European Union on January 1st.
