A viable pipe bomb has been found at a DIY store north of Belfast.

A viable pipe bomb has been found at a DIY store north of Belfast.

The device was discovered at a loading area behind the Homebase store on Longwood Road, Newtownabbey.

The security alert began today after police received reports that a suspicious object had been left close to the store.

Army bomb experts were called to examine the device, which police have described as “viable”.

It has been removed for further examination.
