Paris - The management of Air France and striking pilots resumed negotiations yesterday evening in hope of ending a five day-old strike that could disrupt the World Cup, scheduled to start here on June 10th, Lara Marlowe writes.

The French pilots - who are the best paid in Europe - are protesting against plans to reduce their wages in exchange for shares in the company as part of a Ffr 3 billion (£357 million) cost cutting plan.
