London - A radical shake-up of pensions policy was unveiled by the British government last night, entailing replacement of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme with a new State Second Pension.
Resources will then be targeted on low earners, while middle-income earners will be encouraged to save by bigger national insurance rebates.
