An investigation was launched yesterday after a parked train went on fire at Kent Station iCork city.

Emergency services were called at 8.20am after a generating van attached to a train caught fire. Three units of the fire brigade brought the blaze under control within 15 minutes. Gardaí also attended the scene.

Maintenance workers were yesterday trying to establish the cause of the fire, which did not spread from the generating van. Nobody was injured.

The fire did not interrupt morning services at Kent Station as it was not due to be used. A replacement train was used for afternoon services. The train was not on the platform when the fire broke out. Both the train and generating van were about 40 years old but the generator itself was more modern.
