A bomb exploded in a Jewish settler's parked car in the Gaza Strip today killing one Palestinian and wounding another, the Israeli army said.

An Israeli military source said the dead Palestinian had been working in a greenhouse in the Jewish settlement of Rafiah Yam when the bomb exploded.

There was an explosion inside the car, in the greenhouse area. One Palestinian was killed and one wounded, an army spokeswoman said.

In apparent response, the army erected roadblocks that effectively divided Gaza into two parts and cut off Gaza City in the north from the rest of the strip, witnesses said.

A Palestinian ambulance entered Rafiah Yam to remove the body, a Reuters correspondent near the scene said. At a rally in the Rafah refugee camp the dead man was identified as Wael Abu Muhsen.

The violence was the latest in seven months of a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Palestinians have viewed Jewish settlements, which are illegal under international law, as legitimate targets.
