Washington - Pakistan yesterday assured the US it would not carry out any new nuclear tests unless rival India did so first, stepping up its campaign against punitive US sanctions choking its economy.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister, Mr Abdul Sattar, reiterated Pakistan's no first test stance to US Secretary of State, Mr Colin Powell, on the second day of his visit to Washington.
