O'Sullivan edges out McKiernan in BUPA run

Sonia O'Sullivan won the Great BUPA Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park, Dublin today, covering the 10km in 32 minutes 24 seconds.

The Olympic 5,000 metre silver medallist hit the front before the 2km mark and never relinquished that lead to finished 40 seconds ahead of compatriot Catherina McKeirnan.

European junior cross country champion Charlotte Dale finished a creditable third against strong senior opposition in a time of 33mins 23secs.

In the men's race, last year's World Cup 3,000m champion Craig Mottram was an impressive winner in 28 mins 36secs.

The Australian broke away early to clinch victory well clear of John Mayock. Mayock, top middle distance winner over the last decade, recorded 29mins 7secs.

Seamus Power was the top Irishman home, finishing third in 29mins 27secs.
