Ó Cuív succeeds Brian Lenihan as deputy leader of Fianna Fáil

Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív has succeeded the late Brian Lenihan as Fianna Fáil’s deputy leader.

Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív has succeeded the late Brian Lenihan as Fianna Fáil’s deputy leader.

The announcement was made yesterday by party leader Micheál Martin who also named his Cork South Central constituency colleague Michael McGrath as finance spokesman. That move was widely expected.

The Laois TD Seán Fleming takes over Mr McGrath’s role as spokesman on public expenditure in addition to his existing responsibility of speaking on public sector reform.

Mr Martin said the changes reflected the calibre of work of the three TDs following the sad occasion of Mr Lenihan’s death. Mr Ó Cuív has retained his frontbench responsibility for communications, energy and natural resources.
