“Older people are a tremendous source of knowledge and experience when it comes to passing down recipes and we are delighted at the response to the competition,” Age Action deputy chief executive Lorraine Dorgan said.

The Tara Care Centre Baking group from Bray beat seven other finalists in the national baking competition, where they prepared dishes live in front of the judges yesterday at the Cooks Academy premises in Dublin. “We were hugely impressed by all the entries, and especially the quality of the finalists – it is not an easy task to cook live in front of judges in a strange kitchen, but all eight finalists today did themselves proud,” said judge Eddie O’Toole.
