The Irish Nurses Organisation has warned that patient care at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin could be compromised by working conditions at the Intensive Care Unit.

The INO has called for an emergency meeting with the hospital management over what it calls overcrowded working conditions.

Nurses say this has been compounded by ongoing refurbishments, which have meant that two intensive care units have been amalgamated.

"High dependency patients are being cared for in very cramped and totally unsuitable conditions," INO spokeswoman Ms Phil Ni Sheaghdha said.

"We have met with the Director of Nursing's Office and outlined all our concerns on two separate occasions and we are not satisfied with the approach taken by management to date," she added.
