PARTS OF the northwest suffered the most rainfall last week, according to records from Met Éireann.
The State forecaster's weather station in Belmullet, Co Mayo, recorded 114.9mm of rain in the seven days to Sunday, almost six times the usual for this time of year.
Parts of Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Galway and south Donegal had more than 90mm of rain in the seven-day period, more than four times the average measurements for this time of year.
The greater Dublin area, where a large number of homes were flooded in the past 10 days, received up to 62mm of rain last week, according to weather charts.
Other parts of the country received between 43 and 90mm of intense rainfall from Monday to Sunday last week. Meteorologist David Rogers said the coming four to five days would have mainly drier and brighter skies and winds would be slack.
There would be rain in Munster and Connacht tomorrow, but by the time it reached other parts it would be light and patchy, he said.
Next Sunday, though, many parts of the country would see heavy rain, while indications were that unsettled conditions would continue into next week.
