A REVIEW of four cases of keyhole gall bladder surgery carried out at a Navan hospital found no surgical negligence but recommended that more robust record keeping and communications arrangements are put in place.

The independent report reviewed four cases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, or keyhole gall bladder surgery, at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan involving three different surgeons between May and July 2010.

Although it found “no negligent errors” relating to surgical techniques at the hospital, the report said there were some professional practice issues where it found that there is room for marked improvement.
