Farmers feel that they have already given more than their fair share as part of economic recovery, the head of the Irish Farmers Association has said.

Arriving at Government Buildings for talks on economic recovery programme, Padraig Walshe said farmers had already seen their incomes fall by 5 per cent as a result of measures announced in the Budget last October.

He said that the average farming income was €22,500, less than half of the average public sector salary and that there was no room for further cutting in the agricultural sector

Farming organisations are to consider a Government framework document in talks this afternoon.
