Ireland.comhas confirmed that no Irish people were injured in yesterday's coach crash on the Australian island of Tasmania which killed three British tourists.
An earlier report said an Irish woman along with two Britons were being treated in hospital for injuries after the crash.
A spokesman for Hobart Police in Tasmania confirmed three Britons were killed in the incident and two Britons are still in hospital.
He told ireland.comthere had been a number of inquires from the Irish media about an Australian woman who was originally believed to have been an Irish citizen. He said he could not explain the mix-up.
The Department of Foreign Affairs also said today it received no reports of Irish people being involved.
The tourists were on a night tour to see wildlife in the Cradle Mountain complex when their coach plunged into a ravine.
The coach stopped on a narrow gravel road near the Cradle Mountain tourist complex to allow another vehicle to pass then "just seems to have toppled over down a steep bank", the police said.
It was thought the edge of the dirt road collapsed.
The three dead Britons were named as Ms Judith Franklin (63) from Abington in Cambridgeshire and George and Yvonne MacPherson, both in their 70s and from the Scottish Highlands.
