Algiers - Muslim rebels killed nine Algerian pro-government militiamen and wounded three in a weekend ambush south of Algiers, a newspaper reported yesterday.

In a separate attack, a bomb killed a civilian and wounded five others in the capital on Sunday, according to the security forces. They gave no further details.

In Sunday's ambush, 150 km south of Algiers, about 15 guerrillas sprayed a convoy of militianmen with machinegun fire, El Youm daily said.
