Gardai and Customs officials yesterday seized 50 cattle with Northern identity tags in remote countryside about a mile out of the Border in Co Monaghan. The cattle were discovered in a disused stone quarry in Emyvale, Bragan, and were taken to a Customs compound in Co Cavan.

Customs officials have begun an investigation into the seizure.
