A new tradeable index for Taiwan has been created by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSEC) in collaboration with global index company FTSE Group.

The TSEC Taiwan 50 will be used as a key market indicator for Taiwan and will use FTSE index design methodology to cater for domestic and international investors.

The TSEC Taiwan 50 Index is transparent and liquidity tested and uses the internationally recognised FTSE Global Classification System. The new index can be used to gain exposure to the Taiwan market and as a tool to manage risk.

It is expected that futures contracts, an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) and other derivative products based on the index will also be available.

"Developing a business partnership with FTSE Group is an integral part of our strategy to improve our service to meet market needs, and to help Taiwan gain greater global visibility," said Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation chairman Mr Sean C Chen.
