A large fire in Navan, Co Meath, led to factories being evacuated and schoolchildren and residents being ordered to remain indoors yesterday.

The fire at Hytherm Ltd, an insulation plant, was fought by units from Navan, Trim , Kells and Dunshaughlin. Hytherm is on the Liscarton industrial estate, about three miles outside the town. Ambulance personnel were on standby but no injuries were reported.
