Irish banks will take a “very substantial” reduction on loans bought by the planned National Asset Management Agency, the Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan said today.

“In valuing these particular assets clearly the banks will have to take a very substantial reduction in their value,” he said, without offering a figure.
