Three Muslim officers in Bosnia's wartime Muslim-led government army were arrested on war crimes charges on Thursday, military officials said.

A local news agency said they would be handed over to the UN war crimes tribunal in the Hague.

Mr Atif Dudakovic, the commander of the army of Bosnia's Muslim-Croat federation, told Bosnian television that Generals Mehmed Alagic and Enver Hadzihasanovic were arrested early in the morning but could give no more details.

A source from the federation Defence Ministry told Reutersthat another wartime Muslim officer, a colonel, was also arrested but could not give his name or other details.

The Bosnian Serb SRNA news agency quoted Mr Dudakovic as saying that the two generals were arrested for war crimes committed during the country's 1992-1995 war and that they would be handed over to the UN war crimes tribunal for former Yugoslavia.
