A murder inquiry has been launched in the investigation of the fatal stabbing of a man in Dublin yesterday.

Post mortem results this afternoon confirmed the victim had died of multiple stab wounds.

The man was found dead at a house in the Harold's Cross area of Dublin early yesterday morning.

A 24-year-old man was detained at the scene but later taken to St James's Hospital for treatment. "He did not receive any physical injuries," a Garda spokesman said.

The victim suffered a number of stab wounds in the attack in an apartment at Manor Villas near Mount Argus Church. It is understood neighbours raised the alarm.

The spokesman added that reports in some newspapers today naming the victim were incorrect.
