A homeopathic doctor made his first appearance at the Old Bailey in London yesterday charged with murdering a woman in Dublin.

Mr Christopher Newman (60), formerly of St Peter's Road, Walkinstown, Dublin, and now of Catford, south-east London, spoke only to confirm his name during the hearing.

He was remanded in custody to a plea and directions hearing on August 12th.

Mr Newman is accused of stabbing to death Ms Georgina Eager (29), in Dublin on or before May 22th. Mr Newman, also known by the name of Saph Dean, was arrested in a taxi on Westminster Bridge, shortly before gardaí discovered Ms Eager's body. A doctor's secretary, she was stabbed to death at her home in St Peter's Road, Walkinstown. - (PA)
